    ③ Assess the performance of petroleum products. The acid value of diesel has a significant impact on the working condition of diesel engines. Diesel with a high acid value will increase engine carbon deposits, causing piston wear and nozzle coking. If the acidity is too high, it may be due to a high content of phenols or thiols, which not only affects the color stability of petroleum products, but also generates harmful gases after combustion that can corrode machinery and pollute the environment.

    ④ The degree of deterioration of lubricating oil during use can be determined based on the acid value. After a period of use, lubricating oil gradually deteriorates due to oxidation, manifested as an increase in acid value. When the acid value exceeds a certain limit, new oil should be replaced.
